TaLooLa Kids Spring Into May

“April showers bring may flowers.” Well,where are the flowers?! Just a few days ago,my kids were running through the sprinklers in their swimsuits,looking into the robin’s nest to check out the three turquoise eggs,and running barefoot in the grass until their feet were green! Today,I sent them to school in their winter coats and turned my furnace back on. Let’s plan some fun activities for this wacky spring!

Cinco de Mayo is a great time to have a fun family travel night! What is a family travel night? Gather the family together for a fiesta! Get a few children’s books about Mexico and their culture,dress in festive sambreros,shake some maracas, and create a menu that tastes muy bien like a delicious Enchilada Stack or homemade salsa!

Mother’s Day is coming May 12th and it is one of my favorite holidays. Not only am I a mom of three adorable kiddos,but I get to honor my mom as I am beginning to understand the sacrifices and love she unconditionally gave to me as a youngster. She kept everything so organized and dedicated to our activities. I’m not there yet. There are many days I am busier than a bee yet accomplished nothing on my to-do list! Here is a fun poem for all the busy moms out there!

Mom always kept our handmade gifts we would bring home and I would be so embarrassed by the sloppy craftsmanship. Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!

We all grew up reading the silly rhymes,the nonsense words and the goofy characters by the beloved author Dr. Seuss. This is Dr. Seuss week in honor of the author’s birthday. Let’s celebrate everyday with our children and read a few favorites to add to the theme! Here are a few ideas:

Wild and wacky socks for Fox in Socks!

Wear a crazy hat to read Cat in the Hat!

Get the green food coloring and make a Dr. Seuss breakfast of green eggs and ham and read Green Eggs and Ham!

Wrestle with Daddy after reading Hop on Pop!

Wear red and blue and read One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish!

Give your kiddos a wacky pedicure and paint each toe a different and wild color as you read The Foot Book!

Homemade Texas Roadhouse Butter

Texas Roadhouse has the creamiest,smoothest,yummiest cinnamon butter that just melts into the pores of the warm dinner rolls. Here is a recipe so you can enjoy it at home!

Ingredients: 1 stick butter,1/2 cup powdered sugar,1 Tbsp milk (not shown in picture),and 1/2 tsp cinnamon

Combine softened butter and powdered sugar and mix well. Add milk.

Finally,add cinnamon and stir until creamy and combined.

Serve with warm dinner rolls (my favorite are Sister Schubert’s)!

Valentine Pretzel Candy

Valentine’s Day is a great day to share this salty and sweet snack that is easy to make and delicious to eat!

You will need: square pretzels,heart shaped Dove chocolates,Valentines M &Ms

Spray cookie sheet with Pam. In a single layer,spread out pretzels.

Place a Dove heart chocolate on each pretzel.

Bake at 200º for 8 minutes. Dove chocolates will be VERY soft so don’t touch! Place an M &M on each warm pretzel/chocolate treat.

Let set until chocolate completely hardens (I put the pan in the refrigerator).

Share with your Valentine!

Crayon Valentines

Chocolates,Conversation Hearts,sugar galore! Valentines Day is coming and here is a fun,yet non-edible craft that your kids can make to hand out to their classmates!

First,take all those extra crayons laying around the house–you know,the restaurant crayons,the box of half used crayons your kids used two grades ago, and the ones that are too short to even hold in your hand! Unwrap them and sort them by colors.

At your local dollar store,get a heart shaped ice cube tray or muffin pan. Fill each heart with unwrapped,broken pieces of crayons and fill as full as you can. Plan ahead! My daughter loves the pink,purple,and magenta look where my son likes the superhero colors like red,blue,and black.

Bake crayons at 250º for just a few minutes–watch carefully! Bake until all crayons are melted. Take out of oven and cool (chill them faster in the refrigerator). Pop them out of the pan.

Cut paper and attach heart to the center of the Valentine with a craft glue dot adhesive. Write you Valentine message around the crayon heart like “You bring color to my life,Valentine!”.

Crescent Rolls are the most versatile and easy go-to ingredient in my house. My kids love them. My husband devours them. So I try to come up with different variations on meals and sweet breads to keep my family happy and full!

#1 Nutella Crescents

Ingredients: Nutella and crescent rolls

Separate the crescent rolls on a cookie sheet. Spread about 1 Tablespoon onto each triangle.

Roll starting with the wide end. Bake according to package directions.

Enjoy this tasty after school snack or side dish to your brunch.

Polar Ice Caps

My first grader is studying the artic and what can be better than encouraging the theme at home? Time to serve a chilly Polar Ice Cap drink!

All you need is vanilla ice cream and blue Powerade or Kool Aid.

Pour the Powerade into a glass as the icy blue water of the polar regions. Add a scoop of vanilla ice cream as the ice berg and enjoy!
