One of our favorite places to eat in Kansas City while growing up was at Stephenson’s Apple Orchard Restaurant. And when it closed,we were so sad to miss out on their delicious apple fritters. But,we got a hold of a recipe that tastes just like them and love making them every fall. What you’ll need:
Cooking oil,milk,egg,butter,orange peel,orange juice,apples,salt,flour,baking powder,vanilla,and powdered sugar.
Beat Egg.
Add milk.
And Butter.
Add OJ.
And Orange Peel
Chop apples (with skins) into small pieces and add.
Add vanilla.
Add salt.
And baking powder.
Add flour.
The batter should look like this.
Heat oil to appropriate temp. Don’t lay your thermometer on the bottom of the pan like I did in this pic. It will give you the temp of the pan,not the oil.
Form batter into ball.
Add ball to oil to fry. (I never said this was healthy!)
Cook until golden brown and cooked through.
Drain on a papertowel.
Roll in powdered sugar.
Cover well.
Yum. Now,if you’re really going to do this right…
Add butter…(and ignore the powdered sugar on my fingers…)
And Apple Butter!
I had plenty of taste testers!
