I don’t know about you,but I love spluring for pretzel bites every now and then when I am at the mall. Hot,soft, buttery bread dipped in cheese sauce–yes please! To continue our Superbowl prep this month (see the first recipe here),let’s try making them at home!
Begin by adding yeast to a mixing bowl.
Add warm water…
…brown sugar…
…and melted butter. Mix until well combined and then let sit for 5 minutes.
Add salt…
…and flour.
Beat with dough hook attachment until smooth–about 3 minutes.
Place in greased bowl and let rise for about an hours or until dough is double in size.
Divide dough into 8 equal pieces.
Roll each piece into a 22 inch rope.
Cut rope into 1-inch pieces.
Bring water to a boil and add baking soda. Be careful! It will foam up so add a little bit at a time. Or else you’ll have the overflowing mess that I did!
Boil bites (about 15 at a time) for 30 seconds.
Place on greased baking sheet, making sure they do not touch.
Bake in 425° oven for 15-18 minutes.
Prepare your favorite cheese sauce and enjoy!

In the picture after the oven they look salted. Do you salt before or after baking? Does it need an egg wash? Looks fun to try!
Yes,you salt them with the sea salt before you bake them. Sorry,I forgot to include that step!
